A velvety, rich, and tangy mashed potato recipe made with cream cheese, butter, and heavy cream. Perfect for holidays, family dinners, or a cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream, warmed
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Optional garnish: chopped fresh parsley or chives

Instructions

  1. Peel and cut the russet potatoes into 1-inch cubes. Place them in a large pot and cover with salted water.
  2. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook the potatoes for 15-20 minutes, or until they’re fork-tender and easily mashable.
  3. Drain the potatoes and return them to the hot pot for a minute to evaporate any remaining water.
  4. Add the softened cream cheese and butter to the pot. Use a potato masher to mash everything together until smooth. You can also use a hand mixer for a fluffier texture.
  5. Gradually pour in the warmed heavy cream while continuing to mash or stir. Add just enough to achieve your desired consistency.
  6. Season the mashed potatoes generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Taste and adjust as needed.
  7. Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving dish. Garnish with chopped parsley or chives for an extra touch of color and flavor.
  8. Serve immediately while still warm and enjoy!

Notes

[‘Russet potatoes are ideal for mashing due to their high starch content, but Yukon Golds can be used for a creamier texture.’, ‘Warm the cream before adding it to avoid cooling down the potatoes.’, ‘Mash just until smooth to prevent the potatoes from becoming gluey.’, ‘Taste and adjust seasoning as needed for the best flavor.’]
