A quick and easy creamy homemade ranch dressing made with fresh herbs, buttermilk, and a touch of garlic. Perfect for dipping, drizzling, or tossing with salads and veggies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (about 120 ml)
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (120 ml) or substitute with 1/2 cup milk + 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (60 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt (to taste)
  • Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Finely chop 2 tablespoons each of chives and parsley, and 1 tablespoon of dill. Set aside.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1/4 cup sour cream, and 1/2 cup buttermilk until smooth and creamy.
  3. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Whisk to combine.
  4. Fold in the chopped fresh chives, parsley, and dill gently to keep herbs vibrant.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld and thicken.
  6. Before serving, stir and adjust seasoning if needed. Thin with a splash of buttermilk or milk if too thick.

Notes

For thicker dressing, reduce buttermilk slightly. Use fresh lemon juice for best brightness. Resting in fridge for at least 30 minutes improves flavor and texture. Substitute dairy-free mayo, sour cream, and plant milk for a vegan version. Adjust thickness by adding more or less buttermilk or sour cream.
