Creamy Mushroom Gnocchi Recipe with Perfect Parmesan Sauce

A quick and easy recipe combining pillowy gnocchi, earthy mushrooms, and a rich parmesan sauce for a comforting and gourmet meal.

  • 16 ounces potato gnocchi
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 ounces cremini or button mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook according to package instructions (usually 2-3 minutes). Once they float to the surface, they’re done. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of butter and 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Once melted, add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and tender. Remove the mushrooms from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Add another tablespoon of butter to the skillet. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic—it should be aromatic but not browned.
  4. Pour in 1 cup of heavy cream and ½ cup of chicken or vegetable broth. Stir well and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes to thicken slightly. If the sauce feels too thick, add an extra splash of broth.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and stir in 1 cup of freshly grated parmesan cheese. Continue stirring until the cheese has melted and the sauce is smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet and toss gently to coat in the sauce. Stir in the sautéed mushrooms and sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley.
  7. Serve immediately while hot. If desired, garnish with additional grated parmesan and a sprinkle of black pepper.
