A quick and easy garlic butter baked salmon recipe that delivers rich, buttery flavor and tender, moist salmon perfect for weeknight dinners or impressing guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (about 6 ounces/170 grams each), skin-on or skinless, fresh or thawed frozen
  • 4 tablespoons (60 grams) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil, for greasing the baking dish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with 1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil to prevent sticking.
  3. Place the salmon fillets skin-side down (if skin-on) in the baking dish, spaced evenly.
  4. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt 4 tablespoons (60 grams) unsalted butter gently. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons (30 ml) fresh lemon juice and 2 tablespoons chopped parsley.
  6. Season the salmon with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika evenly over the fillets if using.
  7. Pour the warm garlic butter sauce evenly over the salmon fillets.
  8. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, depending on thickness (about 1 inch thick), until salmon flakes easily with a fork and looks opaque but moist.
  9. Optional: For a slightly crisp top, broil the salmon for the last 2 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning.
  10. Remove from oven and let rest for a couple of minutes. Garnish with extra parsley leaves and lemon wedges before serving.

Notes

If garlic browns too fast while melting butter, lower heat or remove from heat sooner to avoid bitterness. Pat salmon dry before seasoning to help butter sauce stick better. Use freshest salmon possible for best flavor. Internal temperature for medium-rare is 125°F (52°C), well done 145°F (63°C).
