Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 all-beef hot dogs (or turkey/veggie dogs)
  • 8 slices thin crescent roll dough or puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 8 bamboo skewers or popsicle sticks (optional)
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)
  • 1/2 cup dill pickle relish
  • 2 tablespoons diced jalapeños (fresh or pickled)
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha or hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Pinch of kosher salt and black pepper
  • Shredded cheddar cheese (optional topping)
  • Chopped green onions (optional topping)
  • Crushed red pepper flakes (optional topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. If using skewers, soak them in water for 10 minutes.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, combine dill pickle relish, diced jalapeños, Sriracha, yellow mustard, brown sugar, smoked paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well and adjust heat as desired.
  3. Pat hot dogs dry with a paper towel. If using skewers, carefully insert one into each hot dog.
  4. Unroll crescent dough or puff pastry and cut into 8 long strips (about 1-inch wide). Brush a thin layer of spicy relish onto each hot dog, then wrap each with a strip of dough, overlapping slightly. Place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
  5. Brush tops of wrapped hot dogs with beaten egg. Sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds, and add shredded cheese if desired.
  6. Bake for 15–18 minutes, until dough is golden brown and crisp.
  7. Let hot dogs cool for 3–5 minutes on a cooling rack. Serve with extra spicy relish, chopped green onions, or dipping sauces.

Notes

Pat hot dogs dry before wrapping for crispier dough. Adjust relish heat for kids. For gluten-free or vegetarian options, use GF dough and plant-based hot dogs. Air fryer method: 375°F for 8–10 minutes. Make ahead up to egg wash step and refrigerate for 3 hours. Relish can be made in advance and used on burgers or sandwiches.
