Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup (125g) creamy peanut butter
  • ¼ cup (30g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk (dairy or plant-based)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9 inch pan with parchment paper, leaving a slight overhang on the sides.
  2. Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl or over a stovetop. Stir in the granulated sugar until smooth and glossy. Let it cool slightly but not harden.
  3. Beat the eggs into the butter-sugar mixture one at a time. Add the vanilla extract and whisk until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a rubber spatula. Be gentle to avoid overmixing. The batter should be thick and glossy.
  6. Prepare the peanut butter swirl mixture by mixing the peanut butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth and spreadable but still thick enough to hold its shape.
  7. Pour half of the brownie batter into the lined pan, spreading evenly. Dollop half of the peanut butter mixture over the batter in small spoonfuls.
  8. Repeat with the remaining brownie batter and peanut butter dollops, spreading evenly.
  9. Use a toothpick or skewer to gently swirl the peanut butter into the chocolate batter to create a marbled effect.
  10. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  11. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  12. Use the parchment paper overhang to lift the brownies out of the pan. Cut into 16 squares and enjoy.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter to keep brownies fudgy. Use room temperature eggs for better incorporation. Melt butter carefully to avoid cooking eggs prematurely. Swirl peanut butter gently to maintain marbled effect. Let brownies cool completely before slicing for clean cuts. If peanut butter swirl is too thick, add milk a teaspoon at a time to adjust consistency.
