Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup (150g) brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (180g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup Santa Mix candies (red and green M&M’s, crushed peppermint candies, or festive chocolate pieces)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup (230g) of unsalted butter, ¾ cup (150g) of granulated sugar, and ¾ cup (150g) of brown sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 2-3 minutes using an electric hand mixer or stand mixer.
  3. Add 2 large eggs (one at a time) and beat until fully incorporated. Mix in 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together 2 ¼ cups (280g) of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and ½ teaspoon of salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix—it can make your cookies tough.
  6. Fold in 1 cup (180g) of chocolate chips and 1 cup of Santa Mix candies. Reserve a few candies to press onto the tops of the cookies for a festive look.
  7. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches (5 cm) apart.
  8. Press a few reserved Santa Mix candies onto the surface of each cookie for a pop of color.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers are still soft. Don’t overbake—you want them to stay chewy!
  10. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack. Enjoy warm with a glass of milk or store for later!

Notes

[‘Make sure your butter and eggs are at room temperature for smooth batter and even baking.’, ‘Chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking to control spreading and achieve thicker cookies.’, ‘Press extra Santa Mix candies on top of each cookie before baking for a festive look.’, ‘Watch the oven closely to avoid overbaking; slightly underbaked centers result in chewy cookies.’]
