A rich and creamy dessert with layers of salted caramel, perfect for cozy gatherings and special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (cut into cubes)
  • Β½ cup heavy cream (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt (or to taste)
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream (cold)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • Crushed pretzels (optional)
  • Chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts, optional)
  • Chocolate shavings or chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon or heat-resistant spatula for about 4-6 minutes until completely melted.
  2. Add the butter and whisk until fully incorporated.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and slowly pour in the heavy cream while continuing to whisk. Stir until smooth, then mix in the sea salt. Set the caramel aside to cool completely.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, whip the cold heavy cream until stiff peaks form (about 3-5 minutes using an electric mixer). Set aside.
  5. In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together until smooth.
  6. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until fully incorporated, being careful not to deflate the whipped cream.
  7. In your serving dish or cups, spread a layer of the cream mixture, followed by a drizzle of salted caramel. Repeat the layers until you reach the top of the dish.
  8. Optional: Add toppings such as crushed pretzels, chopped nuts, or chocolate shavings for extra flavor and texture.
  9. Cover the dessert and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld and the texture to set.

Notes

[‘Keep a close eye on the sugar while melting to prevent burning.’, ‘Use room-temperature cream cheese for a smoother mixture.’, ‘Chill your mixing bowl and beaters for 10 minutes before whipping the cream.’, ‘If the caramel gets too thick after cooling, gently warm it up for a few seconds in the microwave or on the stovetop.’, ‘Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top before serving for extra flavor.’]
