Savory Spanakopita Turkey Roll Recipe with Feta & Spinach

A hearty twist on the classic Greek dish, combining spinach, feta, and seasoned ground turkey wrapped in flaky phyllo dough for a satisfying and flavorful meal.

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 2 cups fresh spinach, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1 yellow onion, finely diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 6 sheets phyllo dough
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Nutmeg or red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil. Cook the onions until softened (about 3 minutes), then add garlic and spinach. Stir until the spinach wilts, then remove from heat and let cool.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, cooked spinach mixture, feta, dill, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until fully incorporated.
  4. Lay one sheet of phyllo on a clean surface and brush lightly with olive oil or butter. Repeat with 5-6 sheets, stacking them as you go.
  5. Spread the turkey mixture evenly across the phyllo, leaving about an inch of space around the edges.
  6. Carefully roll the phyllo dough into a log, tucking in the sides as you go. Place it seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Brush the top of the roll with more olive oil or butter. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the phyllo is golden and crispy.
  8. Let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
