A quick and easy homemade chocolate chip bread with a tender crumb and melty chocolate chips, perfect for cozy breakfasts or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup (175g) chocolate chips (semi-sweet preferred)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Mix in sour cream or Greek yogurt until fully combined.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, folding gently with a spatula until just combined.
  7. Toss chocolate chips in a teaspoon of flour and fold them gently into the batter.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  9. Bake for 50-60 minutes, checking doneness with a toothpick inserted in the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs.
  10. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Toss chocolate chips in a teaspoon of flour before folding to prevent sinking. Use room temperature ingredients for best texture. Tent with foil if the top browns too quickly. Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread tender.
