A glossy, bubbling buffalo chicken dip served in a hollowed-out sourdough bread bowl, combining creamy, spicy, and cheesy flavors for a crowd-pleasing snack perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups shredded rotisserie chicken (skinless, white meat preferred)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened (full-fat recommended)
  • 1/2 cup buffalo sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup blue cheese crumbles (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons sliced green onions
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 large round sourdough bread bowl (about 8 inches diameter)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Using a sharp serrated knife, slice off the top 2-3 inches of the sourdough loaf. Hollow out the inside, leaving about a 1-inch thick shell all around. Save the removed bread for dipping.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, buffalo sauce, and ranch dressing. Stir until smooth and creamy with no lumps.
  4. Gently fold in the shredded rotisserie chicken, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Avoid overmixing to maintain texture.
  5. Spoon the dip mixture into the hollowed-out bread bowl, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  6. Place the filled bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until the dip bubbles and the top is lightly golden with some crisp spots.
  7. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with blue cheese crumbles and sliced green onions if using. Let cool for 5 minutes.
  8. Serve immediately with the reserved bread chunks for dipping.

Notes

Brush the bread crust with melted butter before baking for a crispier exterior. If dip is too thick, loosen with a tablespoon of milk or cream before baking. Keep an eye on baking time to avoid drying out the dip. Reserve hollowed bread for dipping. Variations include adding jalapeños for heat, swapping cheddar for pepper jack or mozzarella, or using jackfruit for a vegetarian version.
