Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) warm water
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (100g) sugar mixed with 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (cinnamon sugar mix)
  • 1/2 cup (120g) Nutella
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) milk or cream (optional, for thinning Nutella sauce)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar. Set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan, bring water and butter to a gentle boil. Remove from heat once butter has melted.
  3. Pour hot butter water into the flour mixture. Add vanilla extract and stir briskly until a rough dough forms; it will be slightly sticky.
  4. Let dough cool for about 5 minutes until comfortable to handle. Scoop teaspoon-sized portions (about 1 tablespoon each) and roll into balls (about 20-24 bites).
  5. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  6. Arrange dough balls in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between each. Cook for 8-10 minutes, shaking or turning halfway through, until golden brown and crisp.
  7. While warm, toss churro bites in cinnamon sugar mixture to coat evenly.
  8. Warm Nutella with milk or cream in a small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl over low heat until smooth and pourable. Stir well.
  9. Serve churro bites immediately with Nutella dipping sauce.

Notes

Preheat the air fryer to ensure a crispy crust. Make dough balls evenly sized for uniform cooking. Shake or turn bites halfway through cooking to brown evenly. Coat bites in cinnamon sugar while warm for best adhesion. Thin Nutella sauce with milk or cream if too thick. Cooking in batches prevents overcrowding and ensures crispiness. Dough should rest and cool slightly before shaping to avoid doughy centers. For gluten-free, substitute flour with almond flour; for dairy-free, use coconut oil and dairy-free milk and chocolate spread.
