A simple, juicy smash burger wrapped in a soft tortilla, perfect for kids’ lunches or quick meals. This recipe is easy to prepare, kid-friendly, and ideal for lunchboxes or snack plates.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef, preferably 80/20 for juiciness
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp onion powder (optional)
  • 4 large flour tortillas or whole wheat wraps
  • 4 slices mild cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce or baby spinach
  • 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
  • 1 small cucumber, peeled and sliced thin (optional)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise or plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp ketchup or mild BBQ sauce

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, gently combine the ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix just enough to blend the seasoning, about 5 minutes.
  2. Heat a non-stick or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat for 3-5 minutes until hot but not smoking.
  3. Divide the beef into 4 equal portions (about 4 ounces or 115 grams each) and loosely roll each into a ball.
  4. Place one ball in the hot skillet and immediately press down with a spatula or flat-bottomed heavy object to flatten to about 1/4 inch (6 mm) thickness. Hold pressure for 20 seconds to create a crisp edge. Repeat with remaining balls, cooking in batches if needed.
  5. Cook the patties for 2-3 minutes on the first side without disturbing until edges turn golden and crispy. Flip carefully and cook another 1-2 minutes until fully cooked through. Add a slice of cheese on top after flipping if using.
  6. Warm the tortillas in a dry pan or microwave briefly for pliability.
  7. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise or Greek yogurt on each wrap, add a little ketchup or BBQ sauce, then place the burger patty in the center.
  8. Top with lettuce, tomato slices, and cucumber if using.
  9. Fold the sides in and roll tightly from the bottom up to form a neat wrap.

Notes

Use 80/20 ground beef for juiciness. Do not overmix the beef to keep patties tender. Press patties once firmly to create crispy edges. Warm tortillas before assembling to prevent cracking. For gluten-free option, use gluten-free tortillas or large lettuce leaves. Cheese is optional. Add veggies like shredded lettuce, tomato, and cucumber for crunch. Store leftovers wrapped tightly in refrigerator up to 2 days. Reheat gently to keep beef juicy and wrap soft.
