Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 teaspoons (21 grams) unflavored gelatin powder (Knox recommended)
  • 1 box (3 oz / 85 g) cherry or strawberry jello (red layer)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sweetened condensed milk or coconut milk (white layer)
  • 1 box (3 oz / 85 g) blue raspberry or blueberry jello (blue layer)
  • 1 ½ cups (360 ml) vodka (smooth, neutral like Tito’s or Smirnoff)
  • 3 cups (720 ml) boiling water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) cold water
  • Optional: a drop of red or blue food coloring to intensify colors

Instructions

  1. Prepare the red layer: In a medium bowl, dissolve 1 box of red jello powder and 1 teaspoon of unflavored gelatin in 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water. Stir thoroughly for about 2 minutes until fully dissolved.
  2. Add ½ cup (120 ml) vodka to the red mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Pour about 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of the red mixture into each shot glass.
  4. Refrigerate for 30 minutes or until firmly set but still slightly tacky to touch.
  5. Make the white layer: Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of unflavored gelatin over 1 cup (240 ml) cold water and let it bloom for 5 minutes.
  6. Heat gently until dissolved, then stir in 1 cup sweetened condensed milk or coconut milk and ½ cup (120 ml) vodka. Mix well.
  7. Once the red layer is set, gently spoon or pour about 1 tablespoon of the white mixture over it in each shot glass.
  8. Return to refrigerator for another 30 minutes.
  9. Prepare the blue layer: Bloom 1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin in 1 cup boiling water.
  10. Dissolve 1 box blue jello powder into the hot water and stir well.
  11. Add ½ cup (120 ml) vodka and mix.
  12. After the white layer sets, carefully pour about 1 tablespoon of the blue layer on top of each shot glass.
  13. Chill for at least 2 hours or until fully firm.
  14. Serve chilled, optionally garnished with small edible stars or fresh berries.

Notes

Pour each layer slowly over the back of a spoon to avoid disturbing the layer beneath. Patience is key; each layer must set properly before adding the next to prevent colors from bleeding. If shots wobble too much, reduce vodka slightly or add more gelatin for firmer layers. Keep shots refrigerated and covered to prevent drying or absorbing odors. Can be made up to 2 days ahead.
