A bright, crisp, and herbal sparkling strawberry basil lemonade mocktail that’s easy to make and perfect for summer refreshment without the heaviness of sugary sodas.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced (about 150g)
  • 1012 fresh basil leaves
  • 1/3 cup fresh lemon juice (from 2 large lemons, about 80 ml)
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup (60 ml), adjust sweetness to taste
  • 3 cups sparkling water (720 ml), chilled
  • Ice cubes for serving
  • Optional: lemon slices for garnish
  • Optional: strawberry slices for garnish
  • Optional: a sprig of basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse strawberries and basil leaves under cold water. Hull and slice strawberries into halves or quarters. Pat basil leaves dry.
  2. In a pitcher, add sliced strawberries and basil leaves. Gently muddle with a muddler or wooden spoon to release juices and oils without pulverizing.
  3. Add fresh lemon juice and simple syrup to the pitcher. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Optional: Let the mixture sit at room temperature for 10 minutes to infuse flavors.
  5. Fill the pitcher halfway with ice cubes. Pour in sparkling water and stir gently to mix. Adjust sweetness if needed by adding more simple syrup or lemon juice.
  6. Pour into chilled tall glasses, including some muddled fruit. Garnish with lemon slices, strawberry slices, and a sprig of basil.

Notes

Avoid over-muddling basil to prevent bitterness. Use fresh lemon juice for best brightness. Chill ingredients beforehand for a crisp drink. Stir gently after adding sparkling water to preserve bubbles. Prepare mixture ahead but add sparkling water and ice just before serving to keep fizz.
